Sustainable Design

Since 2006, Taipei 101 has been actively engaged in ESG practices. Not only did it achieve LEED certification in 2011, 2016, and 2021, but it also reached a new milestone in sustainability in 2023. With the highest score globally, it secured the "WELL Health-Safety Rating Platinum Certification," making it the first among the world's top 10 supertall buildings to hold both LEED and WELL dual Platinum certifications. This underscores Taipei 101's steadfast commitment and efforts towards environmental sustainability and healthy living, solidifying its leading position in global health and green building management.

LEED v4 Platinum Certification

In 2007, Taipei 101 achieved the highest score globally and obtained the most challenging LEED v4 Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), to be the first building outside the United States to receive such a prestigious certification. In June 2023, Taipei 101 made history again by attaining the highest score ever and being awarded the Platinum certification for "WELL Health-Safety Rating" by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This accomplishment solidified Taipei 101's position as the only building among the world's top 10 supertall structures to hold both LEED and WELL dual Platinum certifications simultaneously.

Double-glass curtain wall

Low-E double-pane glass is used for the glass curtain walls of the building, enabling a highly transparent view over a large area. In addition, its strengthening and sound-insulation properties create a safe and comfortable indoor environment. The glass also reduces the impact of external heat sources and ultraviolet rays, greatly reducing the cost of air conditioning.

Green Corner

In order to promote green building education, the first floor lobby has an indoor planting wall - a three-dimensional garden form to beautify the indoor environment. Through the patterns and shades of different plants, lines are drawn. There are currently five types of plants: kidney fern, gooseberry vine, sage, and the non-Taiwan native species of Zhu Jiao and Golden Ge. As for the medium used for the planting wall, it is re-granulated from recylcled textile waste, and then supplemented with fertilizers, rhizobium, and cyanobacteria which are beneficial to plant growth.
